The Firm
Krystal A. Hedge, PhD, is a clinical psychologist licensed in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, specializing in the complex intersection of psychology and the law. She earned her Master’s in Forensic Psychology from the University of Denver in 2008 and her doctoral degree from the University of Alabama in 2015. Both her master's thesis and doctoral dissertation focused on judicial decision making in Atkins cases (i.e., capital cases in which the defendant may have intellectual disability). Dr. Hedge completed an APA-accredited internship with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Medical Center (FMC)- Devens, followed by a three-year post-doctoral fellowship within the facility’s high-intensity residential Sex Offender Treatment Program (SOTP).
In 2018, Dr. Hedge was appointed Clinical Director and Assistant Mental Health Director at the Massachusetts Treatment Center (MTC) within the Massachusetts Department of Correction. The MTC provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for adult males convicted of sexual offenses, as well as individuals civilly committed as Sexually Dangerous Persons under MGL 123A. Promoted in 2021 to Director of Sex Offense-Specific Program Services while continuing as the facility’s Mental Health Director, she oversaw all sex offense-specific treatment (SOT) and evaluation services statewide. Her leadership involved creating and revising comprehensive sex offense-specific treatment programs, composing SOT-specific policies, establishing comprehensive training programs for clinical staff, authoring SOT-specific contracts for major correctional healthcare companies, and serving as a lead consultant for complex forensic mental health cases.
Beyond her institutional leadership, Dr. Hedge is a seasoned trial consultant for state and federal matters, including capital cases. Her expertise encompasses jury research and selection, witness preparation, case strategy, and the development of supplemental juror questionnaires, among other tasks. She also provides critical review of behavioral health practices and written work product involved in legal cases. In addition, Dr. Hedge conducts professional trainings on effective psycholegal documentation practices for mental health practitioners and legal personnel.
In 2026, Dr. Hedge founded her private firm to realize her vision of delivering expert psychology services to correctional and legal systems. This new chapter allows her to bring her extensive experience, clinical rigor, and passion for the field to legal and correctional systems across the United States.
